Home Education InformationAttachment parenting supports all types of education choices and recognises that many parents wish to educate their children at home. Since school help is readily available on the internet, APCA provides information on home education for those parents that choose it. Open to All Home Education families regardless of School Boards or Home Education Style. Steps to HomeschoolingFIRST step to homeschooling is to attend a "thinking about homeschooling" class. Be sure it is not sponsored by a school board, or school so that you will enjoy an unbiased overview of the Alberta education system and your rights and responsibilities. What are your rights as a home educator? Read this important notice first! SECOND step to homeschooling is to find a school board to register with. A listing is below. Go to their open houses and see what are their unique rules and responsibilities. Alberta School Boards that Register Home Education Families What questions should you ask a Supervising School Board? THIRD step is to decide on what program you would like to be on. You can choose from Traditional-Parent Directed or Blended-Shared Parent and School Directed. The differences are explained in the following links. Considering Blended or Traditional? Know the Differences in Responsibilites! FOURTH step is to purchase curriculum if you are going to use it. A library card and internet access is all you really need to start the homeschooling year until you discover how your child learns best (through workbooks, hands-on kits, videos, field trips, etc.) Many children, especially in the younger grades dislike workbooks and textbooks, but if you need to purchase them, you can do so at the LRC link below. Be sure to check with your school board first because they can order them for you with a discount. FIFTH step is to find your community and support. Links below.
